Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana Won't Mandate Gardasil

Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana says he will not issue an executive order mandating the Gardasil vaccine for Indiana schoolgirls.

"No. I'm not sure I have the authority or any governor should have the authority to issue such an order on his own in our state," Daniels said this morning at his weekly media availability ... The issue is being debated in the legislature, and that, he said, is the proper forum.

No, but he should have the power to block it.

I was following this 'mandatory' vaccination/Gardasil and stop here. Maybe it is interesting:

Today, Florida 'considers' Gardasil. This is the link to the Naples News:
http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2007/feb/23/florida_considers_hpv_shot/?local_news

The article is claiming that Gardasil is 100% effective preventing HPV infection...

Hi everyone!.

I am writing this 'comment' to you about two topics we are dealing with on this web site: Global warming and the fight against cancer.

On my web site I have translated the entire documentary An Inconvenient Truth, featuring Al Gore, the former Democrat Vice President of the United States, from English into Italian. It stands to reason that someone is going to ask the question, “What is the relationship between cancer and the global warming?” There are direct links.

For example, an American study published in the Lancet demonstrates the effects of urban traffic exposure on children’s health. Click here for additional information in Italian and here for a document in English about this matter. As for the English document, Preventing Disease through Healthy Environments, published by the World Health Organization, I suggest that you look particularly at page forty-five, where it is argued the exposure of various pollutants on people is detrimental.

I have recently published on my web site the conclusions of a study that show how cancer deaths have grown in Europe in the recent years. For this and other reasons I am raising money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps those who are living with, through and beyond cancer.

Why we are helping an “American” foundation rather than a European one? The answer is that many American oncologists and scientists have passed their knowledge to their European counterparts, and vice versa. Indeed, we have the capabilities to develop our own knowledge, but we depend on outside contributions as well; it is a world-wide collaborative effort.

As you might have noticed on my web site pages, I am very deeply committed to the campaign I am promoting: 25 x 1000. That is to say, I would like 1,000 people to donate $25 (USD) or approximately Eur 20,00 each to my fundraising headquarters at the Lance Armstrong Foundation to reach a grand total of $25,000. You can click on the top banner on the left sidebar of the home page where it says, “Please Help the LIVESTRONG® European Cycling Team Ride for the Roses. Click Here to Donate.” I have just reached the amount of $ 2,500 (USD), but my goal is to achieve ten times that much.

How many times do we go shopping and buy something that is not useful or that we do not need at the moment? We adopt the same behavior when we begin to speak about global warming: What is necessary at the moment? Will we recycle waste materials and to support the Kyoto Protocol or the Treaty of Kyoto or shall we continue to postpone active solutions to safeguard the climate day after day, month after month and year after year the until it is too late? Shall we spend more money to find new and alternative renewable energy technologies or shall we continue to pollute the environment in which we all live because the old industrial methods are cheaper? Maybe the issue here is that in the moment we act to conquer a danger, we act because we actually have recognized it as a danger and also an opportunity to change.

Let's expand on this theory in three parts:

We might not know the details or facts of a particular issue such as global warming. Consequently, we might not act in a proper manner to further the moral development of society and, in this case, of the atmosphere. But in fact, this is everyone’s problem since we all live on the planet earth.

We may not be sufficiently acquainted with this particular argument, because, for instance, in our family we have never had “cases” entailing tumors and cancers or other problems we see as directly related to global warming. It’s somewhat understandable to act in such a way. However, the fact is: Global warming is everybody’s problem. I do not want to use alarmist, doomsayer warnings, but I certainly want to avoid the ramifications of, “We acted too late.”

Perhaps we do realize some of the consequences of our actions, but unfortunately, for some of our leaders it is not “convenient” to act, because at the moment they deal with “issues” – even dangers - from a political basis rather than a constructive or moral imperative. But, in fact, if someone hides the truth – especially today’s realities – for the sake of convenience, the significance of this truth does not diminish, it grows. If we'll hide this truth for even longer, we will see the reality a future in which “We acted too late.” Even then some would find excuses to justify a destructive or irresponsible way of living. Even in the face of the “undeniable” truth there are still people who use others as pawns to manipulate reality.

I have informed members of my family and my friends, “every day" people. As you notice, by going to our fundraising headquarters and seeing the Honor Roll, the members of my family have just begun to participate in this human chain by donating the amount of $25 (USD) or approximately Eur 20.

By simply participating in this word of mouth chain we can become a big, International family. We will not know each other fully, but we believe in gaining a deeper knowledge of the topics; we have acknowledged the necessity of initiatives that safeguard our environment and, particularly for our purposes, measure that directly benefit the lives those who are living with, through and beyond cancer.

I would be grateful if you could help me in my fundraising efforts. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you’d like clarifications.

Thank you for paying attention and I hope you help me.

Sincerely,
Mr. Michele Capaccioli
